Scooting to School
This was Nate on the way to school this morning. He was looking at the massive construction ongoing on North 5th Street. We've watched that building go up from nothing. At this point, the building is covered in a white sheet as they do interior construction. It will be a massive rental building one day.
Valentine's Day

Earlier that evening, Nate had pooped in his underwear in the playroom (he's been experimenting with underwear), making for a difficult and nasty clean up. He seemed unbothered. Shana shook her head as she relayed the two sequence of events. "Ugh," was all I could say. She sipped her drink and handed it to me.
Mack, not himself lately due to slight illness, quickly descended into sobs, moans and squirms. I stuffed a few chips into my mouth and carried Mack out of the restaurant.

I pictured a young Tom Cruise moving around the table, blasting the cue ball but leaving himself in perfect position for the next shot. It's in the way that you use it! sang Clapton, his gritty guitar taking lead now.
I began picking up Nate's animals lying all over the carpet and couch. Shana fixed a salad for us; spaghetti and meatballs percolated on the stove. I collected the trucks and cars and put them in their bin. Mack began crying and I gave him Tylenol. Nate announced he was "peeing" in his diaper. "Do you want to go to the potty?" Shana asked with positive energy. "No," said Nate.
Shana and I exchanged looks, both of us smiling funny smiles.
Clapton's tune faded out.

Mackie is one!!
Its hard to believe we're here and I'm so glad we've made it to the point where Mack is a sweet funny social strong willed little cutie. He's gorgeous but constantly wet faced and disheveled. Everyone is always asking if he just woke up which is obviously our fault not his. We certainly don't have the same energy that we did w Nate and I feel badly when Mack wants fire attention but he's slowly finding his footing and expressing himself somewhat comprehensively. He loves to play with toys especially balls - a seemingly natural player. Everything about him just screams boy to me but he's also a mushball at times. He still screams when u change him or wipe his nose or put him in the car...but no more spitup or lengthy cries at night . He's starting to be a boynot a baby and even took a few steps.
